MCS is inviting students to participate in its Music Matters! after school program. Classes include orchestra, choir, and percussion for different ages and levels.
Our Music Matters! curriculum can be viewed at Music Matters! Symphony . Students in this program have free access to our instrument library.

Music Matters! Classes
Orchestra
The MCS Orchestra is an inclusive program designed to accommodate beginning through advanced students. Students are given the opportunity to take in the joy and fun of making music together, to gain confidence performing with others, and experience how to play an important role as part of a group. Practice and performance pieces include a mixture of classical, contemporary, pop and jazz music. We invite musicians of all ages to join. Those with more experience may consider mentorship. Recommended for 4th grade and older. $195

Percussion
Beginning students perform together and practice either djembe, bucket drumming, cymbals, tambourine, triangle or simple mallet playing in an ensemble setting. Emphasis on rhythm and following conductor cues. Ages 8-11. $195/year

Orchestra Intro/Beginning Strings
These classes are meant to enhance a child's private lessons, as well as inspire them by allowing them to work on group pieces with other students at their level. Learning how to play interactively with others is a rewarding and necessary skill to develop in any musician. This group will perform with our Youth Orchestra. Must be taken in conjunction with private lessons. Ages 9-17. $195/year

Advanced Hand Bell Choir
Hand Bells are similar to hand chimes. Each ringer plays one or more chimes corresponding to the notes as they appear in a song. The melodies and harmonies created are beautiful. Everyone works together to make music. Students should have knowledge of rhythms to join this class. Reading music and experience ringing is very helpful. Ages 12 to adults, must be able to read music. $195/year

Youth Choir
This course instructs the singer in proper breathing and vocal hygiene. This inclusive class is a fun introduction for those new to music and performing. Concepts of rhythm and the joy of singing are the focus of this class. Ages 7-11. $195/year

Ensemble Choir
This course instructs the singer in proper breathing, posture, vowel formation, singing in parts, sight singing and vocal technique both ensemble, and solo. A mostly classical and art music based repertoire is used, and selections are from various languages. Performance is a large part of this course. Students will receive group as well as solo instruction. By audition. $195

Little Mozarts
Young children, together with their
parents, engage in age appropriate, fun-filled
musical activities to help develop a child’s
natural musical abilities. Activities

Instrument Carousel
Instrument Carousel is designed to offer keen insight into the child's natural interest. Participating students will be able to explore different instruments in order to see which one inspires them. Students spend equal time practicing the skills needed to play recorder, violin, and piano; as well as an introduction to basic note reading. 9 week session. $95

Musical Theater
Designed to prepare students for musical theater productions in the community, this class offers a combination of skill development in voice, acting and movement. Musical scenes are selected and prepared for practice and interpretation. Students will work towards an end of semester group production or private recital. Interested students may also audition for featured solo parts. Ages 13 to 17 or by audition.
